Service Description

In the state of Maryland, individuals must possess a valid Handgun Qualification License (HQL) before they can purchase, rent, or receive a handgun. This requirement is part of Maryland's effort to ensure responsible gun ownership through mandatory safety training and background checks. To obtain an HQL, applicants must: Be at least 21 years old Complete a Firearms Safety Training Course approved by the Maryland State Police Undergo a fingerprint-based background check Not be prohibited from possessing firearms under state or federal law The required training course includes at least 4 hours of instruction covering: Maryland firearm laws Safe handling and storage of firearms Home firearm safety Handgun operation and maintenance A live-fire component where the applicant must demonstrate safe handling and firing of a handgun Once issued, the HQL is valid for 10 years and must be renewed before expiration.
